Project to Promote Study Abroad in Australia for Global Human Resources Development of Childcare Workers and Care Workers in Okinawa Prefecture

SCROLL

Project Objectives

Many foreign nationals live in Okinawa Prefecture due to the U.S. military presence and a rapid increase in the number of foreign residents in recent years.
In this international environment, multicultural coexistence is becoming even more important. In the fields of childcare and nursery care, the development of human resources with English language skills and cross-cultural understanding has become a major issue.
Therefore, Ooba Gakuen proposes a project to promote study abroad, aiming to enhance the global perspective and expertise of childcare workers and care workers through studying abroad in Australia.
Australia is widely recognized as a multicultural society and offers high-level education and services in the fields of childcare and nursery care. The qualification system is also well developed, and those who obtain qualifications have favorable employment opportunities.
In addition, the time difference from Japan is only one hour, making online learning easily accessible.
Specifically, we will expand our partnerships with Australian vocational schools specializing in early childhood education and nursery care. In addition, we are exploring the development of a curriculum in collaboration with local educational institutions, alongside the implementation of a Learning Management System (LMS) that utilizes online learning .
This will create a model plan that enhances students’ English proficiency to a level where they can comprehend their studies while abroad and will help reduce the cost and time associated with studying abroad.
The outcomes of studying in Australia include improved global perspective and expertise, deeper cross-cultural understanding, practical English skills, and certifications recognized in both Japan and Australia.
By acquiring practical English skills before studying abroad, students will be well-prepared to live and study comfortably within their host communities, while developing the ability to communicate smoothly with foreign children and elderly people.
Through this project, we aim to promote the development of global human resources in the fields of childcare and nursery care not only in Okinawa Prefecture but also in other regions, and to create an environment in which high-quality welfare services can be provided.

Introduction to Ooba Gakuen

Ooba Gakuen operates two vocational schools, the Okinawa College of Welfare and Childcare and the Okinawa Social Work College, and is dedicated to the development of welfare human resources in the childcare and nursery care fields. It also operates certified childcare centers, contributing to the social welfare in the local community.
In addition, Ooba Gakuen is committed to developing human resources capable of adapting to a multicultural society. It is currently promoting the “Project to Promote Study Abroad in Australia for Global Human Resources Development of Childcare Workers and Care Workers in Okinawa Prefecture”, a project commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Through this initiative, we aim to develop human resources who can play an active role in the global fields of childcare and nursery care, while actively promoting the expansion of this project’s success to other regions.
